First and fourth Monday of each month (June/July/August)

2014 Schedule  (in pdf)

Community Meals is celebrating our 20th year. We continue to serve 60-65 guests at every meal. It takes 18 dedicated volunteers to prepare and serve each meal. During the school year many energetic confirmation students also help with serving the meals. Our guests come from varied backgrounds and for different reasons, but all appreciate the free, nutritious meals as well as the cheerful, caring volunteers.

Please feel free to join us any Monday that we serve a Community Meals and see what it is all about.

Community Meals: Needs a few volunteers to serve in the following areas:

Cook: Plan the menu and shopping list for 4-6 meals per year. Prepare and serve the meal with the help of a team of 3-5 people. Training provided.

Panera Bread: Pick up the extra bread from Panera Bakery at 9:15 p.m. Sunday evening. Deliver it to Gace Lutheran Church by 5:00 p.m. the following day. (8-10 times per year)

Washing Pots and Pans: Wash the dishes used in the kitchen when the meal is being prepared and clean up the kitchen. (12 times per year)

If you are interested in having fun while helping those in need, please contact Debbie Knutson, 952-239-0856 or Naomi Owen at 952-221-5640.

Community Meals at Grace Lutheran Church serves free meals to those in the community in transition or desiring social interaction.  Guests are seated at 5:30, with the meal being served at 6:00 p.m.  Several community churches use our facility and share in the responsibility of providing and serving the meals.

"Because of recent Health Department changes, beginning March 2012, Community Meals is no longer collecting plastic containers (yogurt, sour cream, etc.).  Thank you for your contributions in the past.

Community Meals Memories

Back in the old days of Community Meals . . . way back in 1994, we cautiously started with one meal a month.  Those early meals were an act of faith as well as an act of love.  Love for others who might be in need, and faith that God would help us bring all the pieces together and pull it off!

Now, twenty years later, it is very gratifying to see that not only did it all come together, but the Community Meals program is still going strong with leadership that has added to and improved the program to make it so much more than it was at the start.  God Bless!
