Christian baptism is one of two sacraments (the other being Holy Communion) in the Lutheran tradition, and exists primarily to proclaim the grace of God that we know in Jesus Christ. In the words and water of baptism, we are declared children of God, members of the church of Jesus Christ. Only by the nurture of the church community does the seed of faith planted in baptism grow into maturity.
Pastor-led baptism preparation classes are offered both for parents of infants and for older children, and adults who have not been baptized in the Christian faith. Baptism Preparation classes meet every three months (first Sunday) in Koinonia Hall. The following dates are the scheduled classes for 2010. (Parents wanting to schedule their first baptism at Grace must attend a baptism preparation class prior to the baptism.)

. June 6, 2010, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
. September 12, 2010, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
. December 5, 2010, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
We invite families to also attend the service prior to the class. The class will consist of a light lunch, an introduction and informational piece from our Children, Youth & Families staff, and a teaching piece from a pastor on the Lutheran understanding of baptism. Child care will be available during the informational and teaching pieces. Registration for the class and child care reservations are required in advance. Please call Kathy in the office to schedule a baptism, and register for both the class and child care.
Baptisms are the held the second Sunday of the month (June/July/August at 9:30 a.m.). Beginning Sept. 12 at both services: 8:45 and 10:15 and the following Wednesday service (June/July/August at 7:00 p.m. Beginning Sept. 15 at 5:45 p.m.) Please call the church office to schedule a baptism. Baptism brochures are available at the Welcome Center.
